The Best Firefighting Water Mist Sprinkler System for Domestic Use. Why NPHS?

by Glasgow Report
in Lifestyle

Water mist sprinkler systems are an important consideration for any home or business. Even though it is not pleasant to contemplate the worst-case scenario, not being prepared to deal with a fire can cause your house or business to be devastated. It is crucial for residential buildings to have water mist sprinkler systems so as to prevent potential disasters from occurring.

The high-pressure water mist fire protection system has numerous advantages over conventional fire sprinkler systems. Using high-pressure mist fire extinguishing systems is more effective than fire sprinkler systems while using a fraction of the amount of water. Less water is used so that areas unaffected by the fire are less likely to suffer water damage.

Water mist fire protection systems use water droplets that are several times smaller than those produced by sprinkler fire systems. Smaller droplets have more surface area, resulting in a higher rate of heat exchange, which cools the fire and turns the mist into steam. Steam displaces oxygen, helping to extinguish the fire more quickly. In addition to saving lives and money, fire suppression systems depend on highly dependable components to keep the fire from spreading.

Water is used to extinguish fires in buildings using misting systems. Fire sprinklers discharge water in the form of a fine mist or spray. In mist systems, water is typically used in relatively small amounts, with flows of up to 500 l/min at a minimum pressure  of 6 bar.

Positive displacement pumps provide standing pressures up to 150 bar in high pressure water mist systems. Stainless steel pipework is typically used in these systems as well.

As with other sprinkler systems, water spray systems are activated either by an external fire alarm system or pressure drop in the pipe system. Different designs of nozzles are used to deliver bespoke spray patterns to protect the area in question.

Water mist systems with low to medium pressure are becoming more common since they can potentially offer the same firefighting properties as sprinkler systems while using less water. The effectiveness, however, is highly dependent on installation and risk.

Grundfos is a manufacturer of fire pumps that supply water to misting systems for commercial and industrial applications.

Features and benefits

Quick fire fighting

  • By cooling the fire and removing the oxygen it results in quicker firefighting
  • As a result of the cooling effect of the water mist, re-ignition is prevented
  • The NPHS water mist system is ready for re-use immediately after a fire

Less damage

  • Due to the high pressure water mist system’s low water consumption, water damage is kept to a minimum
  • The water mist system can be deployed instantly, resulting in less damage
  • Using only pure water, the NPHS water mist system gives you the best possible protection of equipment and human lives

Reduced down time

  • Typically, a reduced amount of damage means less downtime, which means lower costs
  • There is no need to fill cylinders, reducing cost and time associated with refilling

NPHS is one of the UKs leading water mist installers. This company designs, fits and maintains bespoke water mist fire suppression systems; operating in the domestic and residential sectors.

SPECIFICATIONS & FEATURES The NPHS Water Mist Pump

  • Fire Resistance – The pump enclosure is now made entirely of steel to provide fire resistance and additional resistance to mechanical damage.
  • Serviceability – The new pump has a removable cover, which means the company installing it can service and maintain the internal components on site. Instead of sending pumps back to the manufacturer, they can now be repaired on site, saving the manufacturer money.
  • Integrated Inlet/Outlet Manifolds – The inlet manifold (Strainer, low pressure switch, actuated ball valve) and outlet manifold (isolation valve, pressure gauge, drain valve) are now incorporated within the enclosure. Valves and hoses are no longer untidy.
  • No permanent drain required – The pump is now able to operate without the need for a permanent drain.
  • Wall or floor mounting – The enclosure has a flat back that fits neatly against a wall when mounted on the floor or in a cabinet. An option for mounting the chassis on a wall is provided with mounting holes in the chassis back.
