BRITLIFT PROVIDES EXTRA PRECISION FOR HS2 PROJECTS

by Clara White
in Press Release

A government contractor working on HS2 can do more complicated lifting thanks to more accurate spreader beams.

Complex infrastructure projects are what Züblin Ground Engineering in London does best. It just finished two HS2 projects run by SCS JV, a joint venture between Skanska, Costain, and STRABAG. The company that owns Züblin is called STRABAG.

The contractor has built a diaphragm wall in North Acton for a crossing box on Victoria Road. The package, up to 125m x 39m, will let trains switch tracks when they enter or exit Old Oak Common Station. For this project, Züblin needed modular spreader beams to lift steel reinforcing cages precisely. Britlift, which is based in Dorset, was asked to help.

Steve Williams, who is in charge of lifting and logistics at Züblin Ground Engineering, said, “We used to work with another UK company. But Britlift gave us a product with more features and better accuracy at a price comparable to what we had been paying.

“Our old spreader beams got 500mm longer every time, but Britlift’s beams get 250mm longer every time. This lets us make much more precise lifts. This made a big difference because each lift needed to be perfect down to the inch. Without this extra accuracy, it would have been significantly harder to do these things.”

Because HS2 has strict rules about how trucks can pollute, none of Britlift’s customary logistics partners could get materials and goods to sites. Britlift decided to make the deliveries themselves, and Chief Executive Liam Botting was in charge of one run.

“Liam’s personal touch and the whole customer service were very impressive to us,” said Steve. “Each order was delivered within a few days. For the foreseeable future, Britlift will serve as our primary source of spreader beams.

Since 1898, Züblin Ground Engineering has provided innovative solutions to some of the most challenging building problems.Turnkey excavation pits, beginning of the procedure, and tunneling tunnels are some of the specialist services that this company offers. In addition to this, it lays the groundwork for major infrastructure construction projects. Additionally, it is able to manage the freezing of the ground, the repair of dams, and controlled drilling. It is owned by Ed. The STRABAG SE family of businesses is a European technology firm that specializes in building services. One of the companies in this group is Züblin AG. The company employs around 950 individuals across six nations to work on difficult geotechnical projects all throughout Europe. These projects are located in a variety of countries.
