A police officer from the Metropolitan Police has been accused of committing rape, strangulation, and various other offenses.
PC James Murray made an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon to confront these allegations.
The purported incidents are said to have occurred between January and August of this year, with some of them reportedly happening while he was on active duty.
Following his arrest on Wednesday, Murray was taken into custody and promptly suspended from his official duties.
He is facing charges including rape, non-fatal strangulation, causing actual bodily harm, and engaging in misconduct while holding a public office.
Furthermore, he has been formally charged with possessing a firearm (PAVA spray) and four counts of possessing offensive weapons in a private setting.
PAVA spray is a type of chemical irritant that contains pelargonic acid vanillylamide, commonly used by law enforcement officers.
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said on Thursday: “A woman, who is known to PC Murray, is receiving support from specially trained officers.
“A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
