Administrators have disclosed the list of 52 Wilko store locations set to shutter due to their inability to secure a rescue agreement.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the appointed overseer of the insolvency process last month, has confirmed ongoing discussions with potential buyers for the remaining segments of the business.
Furthermore, on Tuesday, a rival retailer named B&M successfully acquired up to 51 additional Wilko stores in a transaction valued at potentially £13 million.
Administrators added “it is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary”, depending on talks with remaining suitors.
Team members working at the stores affected will be made redundant.
Edward Williams, joint administrator, said: “In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary.
“The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of.”
These job reductions are in addition to the previously announced loss of 269 positions at the chain’s support centre in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, and 14 positions at the Wilko subsidiary, Kin Limited, which were disclosed at the end of the previous month.
