Edinburgh City’s ultras welcome beloved side to pitch with amazing display of fiery red pyrotechnics

by Glasgow Report
in Sports

EDINBURGH City football players were welcomed onto the pitch last night by a row of fiery red torches set off by the team’s ultras.

Edinburgh City were taking on local rivals Spartans FC in the City Cup semi-final at their homeground, Meadowbank Stadium.

After ultras found their way to the side of the pitch, they set off pyrotechnics and flares, cheering on their team.

Unfortunately, their cheerleading wasn’t enough for Edinburgh City, who lost to Spartans 0-4, seeing Spartans FC into the final.

Posting on social media yesterday, Spartans FC media manager Mark Brown shared a picture of youths at the side of the pitch, holding flares and sending plumes of red smoke into the air.

He wrote: “Scenes from Meadowbank tonight as the Edinburgh City ‘ultras’ go full pyro to welcome the players onto the pitch during tonight’s City Cup game against Spartans.”

As well as firecrackers and flares, the ultras had drums and were playing music but weren’t let into the actual stadium.

SNP Councillor for Almond Ward, Norman Work, was also at the game and posted a video of the game, including the fiery scenes.

He said on social media: “Edinburgh City FC couldn’t match the display from their ultras as Spartans FC ran riot to reach the final of the East Scotland FA cup.

“All the goals, action and talking points captured in my matchday vlog.”

The video shows the youths moving from outside the stadium to the grassy verge by the pitch before sending up their crimson torches.

A hat-trick was scored for the Spartans by man of the match Mark Stowe, with their first goal scored by Bradley Whyte.
