Ratho Golf Course left completely frozen over following flurry of snow and ice

by Glasgow Report
in Sports

RATHO Park Golf Club has been forced to close its course after it became completely frozen following cold weather.

The club shared pictures of its icy grounds yesterday, apologising for those missing out on playing, and hoping for warmer weather.

The course’s bunkers and curved greens were filled with snow and ice, making golf unplayable.

This follows the bout of wintry weather the city experienced over the weekend, which covered many areas in a blanket of snow.

Pictures show the results of the freezing temperatures, with some holes completely inaccessible due to ice.

The course’s sandy bunkers have been transformed into glacial lakes, and are almost entirely covered with frost.

Whilst creating a beautiful wintry scene, the club has been forced to close until further notice.

Temperatures are said to be looking up heading into the next week, however, so eager golfers won’t have to wait long for the course to thaw and open to the public again.

The club aren’t the only ones affected by the weather in recent weeks, as Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations were completely called off last week due to fears of extreme weather.

Ratho Park Golf Club posted to social media yesterday saying: “Thank you all for your patience.

“Unfortunately, the snow that accumulated on the course over the past week hasn’t had the chance to melt and has now completely frozen over.

“We’re hoping for warmer temperatures soon so we can reopen the course.

“In the meantime, the clubhouse remains open for breakfast and lunch from 10am to 2pm until the course opens.”

Ratho Park Golf Club, opened in 1929, is an 18-hole walkable course that spans around 6,000 yards and is otherwise open all year round.
