Soul of the Junction SCIO Partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Deliver Free Books to Local Children

by Amina
in Press Release

Carstairs Junction, Scotland – Soul of the Junction SCIO, a grassroots charitable organisation serving the local community in and around Carstairs Junction, is delighted to announce a new partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This collaboration will bring free, high-quality, age-appropriate books directly to the homes of children from birth to age five across Carstairs Junction, Carstairs, Carnwath, Pettinain, West End, and Ravenstruther.

From today, families in these areas can register their children to receive a new book in the post each month — completely free of charge — until their fifth birthday.

“We believe every child should have the chance to discover the magic of books,” said a spokesperson from Soul of the Junction SCIO. “We’re proud to be working with the Imagination Library to make early reading accessible and joyful for families in our rural communities.”

About Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Launched in 1995 by country music legend and philanthropist Dolly Parton, the Imagination Library has become one of the most recognised and effective book-gifting programmes in the world. It now operates in five countries, including the UK since 2007, and has gifted over 264 million books globally, with more than 652,000 books distributed in the UK in 2024 alone .

Books are selected by a panel of early childhood literacy experts to ensure each one is age-appropriate, engaging and inspiring. Children who are enrolled from birth will receive a total of 60 books by the time they turn five.

Why It Matters

Research consistently shows that access to books from a young age:

  • Boosts early literacy and language development
  • Encourages daily reading routines and a love of stories
  • Strengthens bonds between children and caregivers

How to Register

Families living in Carstairs Junction, Carstairs, Carnwath, Pettinain, West End, and Ravenstruther can register their children using any of the following methods:

  • Online: Register your child for FREE books here
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Post: Request a form by writing to

Soul of the Junction, 1 St Charles Avenue, Carstairs Junction, ML11 8PQ

There are no income requirements or costs involved — this initiative is open to all families within the eligible areas.

About Soul of the Junction SCIO
