Edinburgh rum bar on the market over 12 months after reopening

by Glasgow Report
in Real Estate

AN EDINBURGH rum bar has now been put on the market, just over 12 months after reopening.

Ruma on Broughton Street is a neighbourhood cocktail bar that offers visitors more than 170 rums, spirits, beer and bar snacks.

The independent cocktail spot first opened last year, at the end of March 2024, before facing a temporary closure and reopening in July 2024.

Text on the exterior of the bar states that it houses “Scotland’s largest rum collection”.

New owners of the property will acquire it on a leasehold basis, under a lease assignation due to a five-year lease being signed last year, with an opportunity to extend this for another five years.

Cornerstone Business Agents said that the business is based in “one of the best licensed trading pitches in central Edinburgh”.

The business continued: “Our clients have owned and operated the business since early 2024 but a change in personal circumstances now allows a great opportunity for new, enthusiastic and experienced operators.

“Our clients have traded on a restricted basis offering a niche specialist rum and cocktail offering.

“At present no food is offered and it is thought that an enhanced wet sales trade allied with a well delivered food option will unlock the huge potential this site shows.”

Ruma is located nearby the St James Quarter, Omni Centre and Edinburgh Playhouse.

Posting on Facebook earlier this month, the team had said: “Can you believe it’s been a year since we (re)opened?

“In true Ruma style, we forgot to make a big deal of it, so we’re going to party next week instead.

“A lot has happened in those 12+ months – a new back bar, multiple layout changes, wonderful staff have come and gone, and a new menu was launched.

“We know we have some old favourites from our previous menu, so we’re bringing them back next week as specials – get ready for the return of the Rhubarb Paloma and the Pineapple and Fig Old Fashioned for just £10 all next week to celebrate.

“Come and see us and drink with us to celebrate a (belated) birthday. Cheers.”

Ruma can be reached at 39-41 Broughton Street, and the property listing can be found on Cornerstone Business Agents’ site.
