Hibs share pictures of new visitor centre opening to mark 150th anniversary

by Glasgow Report
in Sports

HIBS have shared new images of a visitor centre which was announced earlier this year.

Hibs turn 150 this year, and the club has been busy converting the old ticket office at Easter Road into a brand-new visitors’ centre to exhibit the “rich history” of the club.

Hibs hope to welcome schools, locals, tourists, and community groups for a whistlestop tour of their history and heritage.

The project has been developed alongside Hibernian Historical Trust and will be populated by an extensive archive of club memorabilia and artefacts.

The Hibernian Historical Trust was set up in 2004 and is responsible for maintaining and preserving the club’s history using Hibee memorabilia.

Following a successful exhibition at St Mary’s Street Hall, the trust was asked to contribute to work on the new visitor centre.

It will deliver a “constantly evolving” exhibition which aims to engage supporters and the wider public with the club’s history.

The work is being supported by the club and Hibernian Supporters Limited (HSL), an association of Hibs fans and the third largest shareholder in the club.

Hibs moved its ticket office in November last year to the Famous Five Stand at Easter Road.

The old building, which stands on its own unconnected to any of the stands, has lain vacant since, with work ongoing on the visitor centre.

442 Design, JB Contracts, and Eastern Exhibition & Display have also consulted on the project.

Images shared today (MON) show a collection of classic Hibs tops from over the years, a viewing area featuring dugout seats for highlights of games, and plaques and displays taking visitors through the stories of some of the club’s legends and most famous fixtures.

Details about when the centre is expected to open have not yet been announced.

Hibs and the Hibs Historical trust have been approached for comment.
