Lewis Miller to miss World Cup after complete rupture of his Achilles tendon

by Glasgow Report
in Sports

Former Hibs defender Lewis Miller is set to miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup after suffering an Achilles injury in Blackburn Rovers 3-1 victory over QPR on Saturday.

The Australian defender is a regular member of the Socceroos squad alongside Martin Boyle and Jack Iredale.

He made the move from Easter Road to Ewood Park in the summer and has been a mainstay in the side since then, making 29 league appearances, scoring twice and assisting twice from either centre-back, right-back, or right wing-back prior to his injury.

Miller was stretchered off early in the second half at Loftus Road and subsequent scans have confirmed a complete rupture of his Achilles tendon.

The 25-year-old has undergone an operation, carried out by a world-leading foot and ankle surgeon.

As a result, Miller is expected to be sidelined for around nine months, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2025-26 Championship campaign, as well as this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

A spokesperson for Blackburn Rovers said: “The Australia international will receive the full care and support of everyone at the club throughout his rehabilitation, and everyone at Rovers wishes him a full and speedy recovery.

“We’re all with you, Lewis.”
