Former Footballer Tony Kelly Shares Story of Faith and Redemption in New Memoir

by Amina
in Press Release

In his motivational and deeply inspiring new biography, When You Have Faith: You Truly Believe, Anything is Possible!, former professional footballer Tony Kelly shares a remarkable story of ambition, adversity, and ultimate redemption through faith, resilience, and determination.

Growing up in Coventry, England, Tony Kelly dreamed of becoming a professional footballer, and through talent and dedication, he achieved that dream. His career saw him play for several clubs across English football, including Stoke City, Cardiff City, Leyton Orient, Bury FC, and Hull City. While his journey was filled with opportunity and success, it also exposed him to pressures that would later shape the most challenging chapters of his life.

Kelly courageously reveals the devastating impact of his gambling addiction, which culminated in the loss of over £500,000 during his playing career. The addiction led to three house repossessions, severe mental health struggles, the breakdown of his long-term relationship, and ultimately his bankruptcy in 2009, amounting to £192,000. His story sheds light on the often-hidden realities faced by professional athletes and the serious consequences of addiction.

However, this is not just a story of loss; it is a powerful testament to recovery and transformation.

Tony Kelly is living proof that anyone can recover from serious trauma and adversity. Through courage, mental strength, faith, resilience, and unwavering family support, he has rebuilt his life, something he and his family are incredibly proud of.

Today, Tony uses his lived experience to educate others about gambling-related harms across the UK. He leads his charity, RED CARD GAMBLING SUPPORT PROJECT CIC, which focuses on education, awareness, and prevention, helping individuals and communities better understand and combat the dangers of gambling addiction.

This story is not about tragedy; it is about triumph and hope. Tony’s compelling journey will resonate deeply with anyone who has faced adversity, struggled with loss, or felt a lack of hope. It is a must-read for those seeking inspiration and proof that change is always possible.
