SIR Ranulph Fiennes, alongside his cousin Joseph, will “return to the wild” in a new two-part documentary on National Geographic.

The documentary, named Fiennes: Return to the Wild, will follow Sir Ranulph and Joseph as they retrace the footsteps of the former Fiennes’ pioneering expedition through the Canadian wilderness in 1971.

Co-produced by Woodcut Media and The Development Partnership, the series will feature rare archived footage of Sir Ranulph’s past expeditions, alongside shots from the recent adventure.

Five years ago, Joseph also followed his cousin as he retraced his 1969 expedition up the river Nile.

This new adventure allows the audience to uncover more about the legendary explorer as he reflects on past triumphs and challenges, while also candidly discussing his recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.

Joseph commented: “Embarking on this adventure with Ran has been a profound journey of rediscovery and connection for me.

“It’s not just about conquering physical challenges; it’s about rekindling the bonds of family and embracing life’s unpredictable twists.

“I invite everyone to join us on this remarkable expedition, where we explore the depths of friendship, resilience, and the beauty of shared experiences,” he added.

Sir Ranulph said: “Completing this journey with Joseph and exploring the beautiful Canadian scenery has been more than just an adventure; it’s been a reunion of hearts and spirits.

“Together, we’ve rediscovered the strength of our bond and the power of shared experiences.

“Retracing the route of my 1971 adventure has been immensely fulfilling, made even more enjoyable by experiencing it with a family member.

“This has been a truly unforgettable journey for me, and I am delighted to be able to share it with viewers on National Geographic.”

The two-part documentary, sponsored by Destination Canada, premieres on National Geographic on Sunday 26 May at 8pm and the adventure concludes a week later on Sunday 2 June.
