One-trick pony Nigel Farage calls for a referendum on leaving the ECHR – 18 votes of no confidence

by Glasgow Report
in Politics

We’re all well aware of Nigel Farage‘s recent trip to the US to support his ‘good friend’ Donald Trump, during which he didn’t get to see his ‘good friend’ Donald Trump.

It seems as though his head (as well as his heart) was still in America on Monday when Keir Starmer stood up in the House of Commons to make it absolutely clear that the UK will not be leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which it helped draft.

Keir Starmer:

“Let me be clear. There is no need to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights. That is not consistent with the values of that blood bond. And so we won’t withdraw. Not now. Not ever.” pic.twitter.com/HXGApSf7F9

Just one day later, Farage made his maiden speech, and – surprise, surprise – he used it to call for a referendum on leaving the ECHR.

It’s sad when a politician clings to their one idea, even after it’s turned out to be a spectacularly bad one.

I trust Nigel Farage as much as I’d trust a mug of Lemsip from Harold Shipman. https://t.co/szOf3Y93js

Only a day after Labour explicitly ruled out leaving it

Pointless right wing garbage used when he could have highlighted more pressing issues in his constituency – if he’d bother to visit it

I’ve got a fun suggestion. A referendum on deporting Farage to Mother Russia.

If someone wants to remove human rights protections it’s because they want to abuse your human rights. Yes, yours. #ECHR

Reform Party Leader Nigel Farage says we should have a referendum on leaving the ECHR to stop the boats
