“Cutting-edge” golf simulator opens its doors in Edinburgh

by Glasgow Report
in Sports

EDINBURGH Leisure has cut the ribbon on a new “cutting-edge” golf simulator in Craiglockhart in the west of the capital.

The new Trackman Golf Simulator has been installed at Craiglockhart Tennis and Leisure Centre so golfers can practice their swing without braving the taxing winter elements.

Occupying the space formerly taken up by a spin studio at the entrance to the tennis centre, Edinburgh Leisure claims the simulator is an “exciting new addition” and “represents a significant investment in leisure innovation”.

Digital golf simulators have been around since the 1970s, but have steadily progressed in sophistication over the years, becoming popular among professionals and amateurs alike.

The simulator officially opened yesterday and will cost golfers £25 per hour.

Customers can bring their own clubs, or Edinburgh Leisure can provide a set.

Edinburgh Leisure also claim that not only will the simulator allow experienced golfers to improve their game, but it will also serve as a perfect opportunity for socialisation.

The £25 per hour cost is per session, and each session can accommodate up to four people.

Kirsty Stobie, manager at Craiglockhart Tennis and Leisure Centre, said: “We’re thrilled to bring this state-of-the-art golf simulator to Craiglockhart.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for golfers of all levels to enjoy the game in a new way, and we’re proud to offer our members something truly special with the discounted launch offer.”

The Craiglockhart Tennis and Leisure Centre already boasts five indoor hard tennis courts, five outdoor clay courts, three pickleball courts, an outdoor clay tennis court with a stadium, two squash courts, a gym, and three fitness studios.

Golf simulators function by combining a hitting screen, a specialised mat, and a launch monitor system to trace the ball and club date after a shot is taken.

The system then simulates the trajectory of the ball and renders it onscreen, providing instant, meticulous feedback on aspects like ball speed, spin, and launch angle.
