Raphael Sallinger kept Hibs’ European hopes alive with a superb performance between the sticks, having been sharp to deny Emmanuel Fernandez, Aasgaard, Dujon Sterling, Youssef Chermiti, Connor Barron and Mikey Moore.
Hibs took an early lead through Martin Boyle’s effort, with Thelo Aasgaard levelling for the hosts just before the break.
As the contest appeared to be heading towards a draw, Dane Scarlett snatched victory with his first goal for the Club.
The Austrian was delighted with the spirit the team showed to secure a vital win that takes the race for fourth place in the William Hill Premiership down to the final day on Saturday.
“Obviously, we had a very good start with Boyley (Martin Boyle) scoring, and then we found ourselves a bit lucky in the first half,” Sallinger told Hibs TV.
“I think Rangers had a couple of good chances and played really well, and we did well to keep it 1-1 going into the second half.
“We know that we came here and had to win if we wanted to finish fourth, which is our target, to play our European football next season, so it was a really good start to this game.
“I’m delighted with that (his own personal performance), but that’s what goalkeepers should do: help their team when they need to.
“I’m very happy that I’ve done this tonight, and in the second half, we defended really strongly.
“We changed a bit at half-time because we came under a lot of pressure in the first half, and I think we found ourselves defending better.
“We were more compact defensively, and then in the last minute, we had that one chance.
“Felix [Passlack] had one good chance before, but then we had our other chance, which won us the game.
“It (Motherwell) is a massive game for us. I think we have now beaten every team in this league apart from Motherwell, so that’s our target for Saturday.”
