Whether you’re a busy parent, spouse, friend, caretaker, etc., everyone feels out of control from time to time. The combination of living through a pandemic and the threat of economic recession. It’s enough to overwhelm anyone. Sometimes life can feel out of control when you are constantly worrying and wondering if you can make plans for life when unexpected situations add up.
It’s easy to become overly anxious and feel as if your life is out of control. Feeling as if your life is out of control comes from anxiety and feeling like you don’t have all the answers.
Gerard Grogans is no stranger to stress and anxiety. Growing up Gerard did not grow up in the healthiest family environment. He experienced physical abuse, mental, emotional, and psychological abuse. But despite being raised in that toxic environment, Gerard used his traumatic experiences to improve his self-worth and self-image and now he teaches others how to recreate their lives as well.
Inspiration
This led him to write: “The Blueprint: How to Recreate Your Life in Six Simple Steps.” It is a prime example of how he learned from his life experiences to heal through his emotions and become a better version of himself today. Gerard claims that this book will help the readers go from where they are to where they want to be in the quickest and shortest time possible.
In chapter 1, Gerard takes the readers through a process of identifying & releasing unprocessed emotions using a technique invented by Dr. Francine Shapiro called (EMDR) Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.
In her book “Getting Past Your Past,” Dr. Shapiro explains that there are about 15 to 20 unprocessed emotions that are still running in the background of our unconscious minds controlling everything we think and do. For instance, something that hurt you experienced in the past may still be buried deep inside your subconscious mind controlling every decision you make now and in the future. Even how you deal with stress and anxiety, but you have the power to change it.
Change Your Perspective
The point here is that sometimes in life you have to take the good with the good and the bad with the bad. That means you must think positively and do your best to appreciate challenging situations you face in life because they can teach you so much about personal growth and development. What that means is that rather than viewing your life as “out of control,” it may be helpful to take an “it is what it is” perspective for the things that you cannot change. You can also sight the serenity prayer.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
Amen.
Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
This means letting go of the need to control everything and taking control of the thing that you can. In suffering comes resilience and determination to seek greater opportunities for your life. So, it is important to remember to try not to worry too much about how things will pan out. Instead focus what’s going well in your life and aim to be thankful for the things you do have.
Try to also be appreciative of challenging situations in your life because they push you to keep going even when it feels like your life is out of control.
