Project 195 aims to unite artists from every country in the world

by Glasgow Report
in World

Project 195 is built around the premise that art is global society’s ‘only true universal language’

A new movement aims to connect creators from every country across the world, asking if art could be the ‘one language that unites us all’.

Project 195, launched by art platform 13AM Studio, began on 17 February and will run until 31 August. Creatives from 71 nationalities are already on board.

George Ripton, founder of 13AM Studio, explained: “Art is the purest form of connection – it crosses borders, cultures and languages without hesitation. 195 in 195 isn’t just about numbers, it’s about proving that creativity can unite us in ways nothing else can.”

Each new addition is more than a name on a list, it’s a story, a culture, a perspective brought to life, he said.

From the 195 countries of the world (as defined by the United Nations), artists from Europe, Asia, Africa and South America have already signed up. Pape Ink from Panama joined the project this week. His ‘high-energy, graffiti inspired’ style illustrations capture the theme of reconnecting with imagination, play and creative freedom, said Ripton.

The works included will be showcased online and offline, in global exhibitions and events. In a nod to artists’ schedules, it’s up to them whether they submit an existing piece or create something new: “We understand that creating something from scratch can be time-consuming, and the last thing we want is to add extra pressure,” said Ripton. “So far, we’ve had a mix of both new and existing pieces, and we’re happy to accommodate whatever works best for each artist.”

More than 200 artists, including illustrators, filmmakers, photographers and designers, already use 13AM Studio’s platform to showcase and sell their work.

Ripton is stepping in front of the camera to create daily updates across 13AM’s social channels. He anticipates “raw challenges” and breakthroughs, as well as unheard stories of artists across the world, making the project “a real-time global documentary in the making”.

“We’re not just counting countries – we’re changing the way the creative world is seen,” Ripton said. “Talent is universal, but opportunity and access aren’t. This movement is about breaking down barriers and giving every artist, everywhere, a seat at the table.”

After hitting the goal, 13AM studios plan to expand Project 195 further to spotlight underrepresented nations and cultures, creating “a lasting platform for collaboration, cultural exchange and artistic opportunity”.

“In an era where the world feels increasingly divided, hostile, and fragmented, creativity remains one of the few forces capable of bridging cultures, sparking dialogue and bringing people together,” said Ripton.
