HEARTS has submitted a planning application to the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) to introduce banners in the west of the city which celebrate the area’s history.
As part of the Maroon Mile project, banners will be supplied by Hearts and will feature 15 placards attached to lampposts from Haymarket, through Gorgie and up to Tynecastle Park.
The council will install the banners, which will also recognise the club’s 150-year anniversary that took place last year.
The club say that they have been in discussions with Edinburgh Council for more than a year about this, and it has been agreed that the banners could be in place for six months.

The planning proposal reads: “The Maroon Mile heritage trail will consist of lamppost banners.
“The banners have been designed with the guidance, and in accordance with CEC’s banner template and regulations.
“The lamppost locations have been selected by CEC.”
The group say that, as advised by Edinburgh Council, banners will be “2030mm high by 760mm wide” and will “have a 70mm pocket at the top and bottom of the banner, welded and stitched”.
HMFC and the Foundation of Hearts say that they have secured funding of £207,339 for the Maroon Mile project to go ahead from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Hearts says that the banners will celebrate the rich history of Gorgie and Dalry and explore the role that the football club has played in the lives of the many generations who have lived there.
It hopes to focus on the social, economic and sporting history of the area through the project and reflect the strong sense of community.
The application is open for comments from members of the public until Monday 9 June and can be found on the council website.
Hearts has been contacted for comment.
