STUART Hogg, the former captain of Scotland’s rugby team, has been stripped of the MBE which was conferred upon him in 2024.
A notice in The Gazette – the King’s official record – said that this MBE would be “cancelled and annulled”.
In 2024, Hogg pleaded guilty to one charge of domestic abuse against his wife, who was already estranged from the rugby player, and he was later given a community payback order.
Hogg is one of Scottish rugby’s most recognisable names, after making 100 appearances for the Scotland National Team.

He currently plays for Montpellier in France.
The full notice in The Gazette reads: “THE KING has directed that the appointment of Stuart William HOGG to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, dated 30 December 2023 shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”
Hogg’s name appeared on a list of people to be stripped of their honours today.
There were calls to strip Hogg of his honour as a Member of the British Empire after he admitted to shouting and acting in a threatening or abusive manner outside his estranged wife’s home.
